About meI graduated from Istanbul University, ELT Department in 2002. I taught English and Turkish (as a foreign language) during my undergrad years. After I graduated, I began to teach English and drama in a private school. In 2003, I resigned from the high school and began tutoring Turkish as a foreign language in IH (International House) then EF (English First). Meanwhile, I also worked as a freelance translator (Eng-Tur and Tur-Eng). I have been tutoring Turkish as a foreign language for eight years, including three years of class experience. In 2005, I began to work as a research assistant in Yıldız Technical University, Faculty of Education, Foreign Languages Teaching Department and currently am in the same position. In here, I taught Turkish to ERASMUS students in TILC(Turkish Intensive Language Course) 2006 which is organized by Foreign Languages Dept. under the body of EU office of the university. In July 2006, I got my M.A. in Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language. Currently, I am doing my PhD in Linguistics focusing on lexicography. |

"Lexicography is a discipline with a long history in most cultures. Typically, it aims at breadth of coverage
rather than depth. Depth is achieved in the related discipline of lexicology, through detailed studies of key
elements in the lexicon. The aim of lexicography is the systematic collection and explication of 'all' the words of
a language (more strictly speaking, all the lexical items of a language, including idioms, multi-word expressions,
and bound morphemes, as well as individual words). This encyclopedia contains articles on the history, current
state of the art, and available lexicographic resources of the world's major languages, complementing the
corresponding articles on individual languages and language situations. In the past two decades, the practice of
lexicography has been transformed by the evidence of usage that is now to be found in large electronic corpora,
so that the traditional historical-cultural focus of lexicography is beginning to be matched by empirically well-
founded accounts of the dynamic nature of the lexicon and the relationship between word meaning and word
use. This section also contains articles on some key aspects of onomastics." (Frawley, William J. 1992. Encyclopedia of Linguistics Oxford: Oxford University Press) Top ^ © E.Özcan | Updated: Tue Apr 07 09:37:33PM EET 2008 |
